Cycling in Sicamous, BC

Sicamous is a strong B.C. cycling destination for riders interested in the newly expanding Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail. In the wider Columbia Shuswap area, the riding character is shaped by mountain-town riding, rail-trail expansion and forest singletrack. Revelstoke and Golden are mountain-bike destinations; the Shuswap corridor is gaining accessible rail-trail mileage but remains incomplete in places.

For a first visit, build the day around one of the route ideas below rather than simply choosing the shortest road between two points. Match the route to your bike, surface preference, traffic comfort and available daylight.

As of July 3, 2026, approximately 32 km of the overall rail trail was open across three disconnected segments; Sicamous-to-Grindrod is the longest continuous open piece. A temporary September closure was planned for a section adjacent to Mara Lake for shoreline work, so this page needs a live condition check before publication and again before peak fall travel.

How to plan the ride

If you are visiting Sicamous for the first time, start with the most separated, signed or trail-based option that fits your bike, then add road mileage only after checking the current local map. Weather, construction, wildfire conditions, seasonal maintenance and trail closures can change quickly in B.C., so confirm the latest official notice on the day you ride.

Before you ride

  • Check current rail-trail segment openings.
  • Mountain routes can remain snow-covered well after valley trails are dry.

B.C. cycling rules still apply: obey traffic controls, ride in the permitted direction, use required lights and reflectors after dark, and wear an approved bicycle helmet. On shared paths, slow down around people walking, dogs, children and other riders; local bylaws or park rules may add extra restrictions.
