Cycling in Kelowna, BC

Kelowna is a strong B.C. cycling destination for riders interested in Myra Canyon, Okanagan Rail Trail and lake-to-wine-country cycling. In the wider Central Okanagan area, the riding character is shaped by rail trails, lake views and rolling wine-country roads. The valley has excellent low-grade rail-trail riding, but connectors and vineyard roads can be steep and exposed to summer heat.

For a first visit, build the day around one of the route ideas below rather than simply choosing the shortest road between two points. Match the route to your bike, surface preference, traffic comfort and available daylight.

Kelowna is another destination that should have multiple Wander Bike pages. Myra Canyon is the iconic scenic ride; the Okanagan Rail Trail is better for a low-grade corridor ride; and urban waterfront cycling serves casual visitors. As of 2026, do not promise an uninterrupted Kelowna-to-Coldstream ride without checking the construction/gap notice.

How to plan the ride

If you are visiting Kelowna for the first time, start with the most separated, signed or trail-based option that fits your bike, then add road mileage only after checking the current local map. Weather, construction, wildfire conditions, seasonal maintenance and trail closures can change quickly in B.C., so confirm the latest official notice on the day you ride.

Before you ride

  • Check current Okanagan Rail Trail gap/construction notices before planning a through-ride.
  • Carry more water than you think you need during hot Okanagan afternoons.

B.C. cycling rules still apply: obey traffic controls, ride in the permitted direction, use required lights and reflectors after dark, and wear an approved bicycle helmet. On shared paths, slow down around people walking, dogs, children and other riders; local bylaws or park rules may add extra restrictions.
